What is Biodiesel energy?
Biodiesel is a renewable energy source derived from a variety of farm crops, animal fats and waste cooking oils. It has gained a significant market share in Europe, and the US market will grow significantly based on the 8 billion gallon per year mandate included in the National Energy Bill.
Growth in this market was also central to the President’s 2006 State of the Union comments on the nation’s strategic energy needs, and it will be a focus item in the coming years.

- MST can facilitate the preprocessing needed to upgrade low cost animal fat and waste cooking oil feed stocks for use in biodiesel production. This improves the economics for using these raw materials.
- Microwave energy enhances the biodiesel production reaction rate and shifts the reaction equilibrium toward higher yields of biodiesel. Use IPRC’s MST system to achieve these benefits commercially.
- MST can facilitate separation of biodiesel intermediate process emulsions. This allows conversion of biodiesel production from a semi-batch to a continuous process, with a substantial increase in plant capacity and production throughput.
